History of the Coaching

History of the Coaching

The term "coach" appeared at the end of the 19th Century for the first time as a professional in connection with professional sports coaches. Before that in earlier years the Greeks philosophers mentioned the need to offer to their audience some processions to enhance fulfillment in their daily and professional lives. Socrates questions are the earliest form of coaching as we know it today. The teachings of Buddha have also laid the foundations for coaching as well as the writings of Nietzsche and Sartre .

At the beginning the coach was taking care of teamplayers (such as baseball, football..etc) as well as individual players in different kind of sport fiels like golf, swimming. Further the coach looks at the playersteamarts like group games baseball, football but also in individual sports like tennis. Close by the athletic skills, and knowledge, it is mentioned that the motivation and tips have a common rôle to have succes. In the 1950s, it was perceptible that in sports like tennis and golf it wasn't exculisevely enough to be succesful for a player.

As a result of relazing the importance of factors like motivation and training on success the coaching established itself as a professional succesfactor and nebenby “coaching” shifted the focus of performance from physical action to the mental mindset of the player.

End of the 60s Timothy Gallwey who has developed theories about personal growth, brought from this finding a whole new form of training which we call it coaching nowadays as : "the inner game" (Inner Game of Tennis, Inner Game of Golf and Inner Game of Skiing). An important statement from him was: "The enemy in his own head is much worse than the opponent on the other side of the net." And he says further: "... that when a player without the coach to take care of the technology have an unexpected talent will come to light if the coach can help him to internal, its performance through the barriers or to reduce. "These ideas are the basis for our understanding of the coaching.

The character of the coaches from these backgrounds is therefore not particularly characterized by the fact that the coach brings solutions to problems. As a result coaching opens a door from individual developement to his own development.

Tin behalf of 70'ies coaching has faced with the boardrooms of American companies. They mentioned that a good coaching opportunity kann also be used to developbusiness skills of leaders to promote and to use for the success of the company.

As a conclusion the term of coaching is used in almost area of training. After than the corporations started to implement and apply coaching techniques in their own organizations. In the nineties Thomas Leonard, Laura Witworth, and Henry Kimsey-House put together the corpus of coaching theories and techniques.
